Description

This annual service kit keeps the Bug Buster Alpine Titanium Series UV system running at full disinfection strength. It bundles a replacement UV lamp with the full set of filter cartridges the system needs, so everything gets refreshed in one service instead of ordering parts separately throughout the year.

The kit is compatible with the Bug Buster Alpine Titanium Series and Alpine Pure Titanium Service Kit, both running a 3 x 20” jumbo cartridge configuration.

  • Correct lamp specification (417 mm, 40 W T5 4-pin) matched to the Alpine Titanium Series
  • Graduated filtration, 20 micron through to 1 micron sediment plus carbon block, for sediment removal and taste/odour reduction
  • NZ stock held locally for fast turnaround on annual servicing

Why You Need It

UV lamps lose disinfection effectiveness after 12 months of operation, even when they still appear to glow, so a system running on an old lamp can look fine while offering little real protection. At the same time, filter cartridges accumulate sediment and contaminants, which reduce flow and water quality.

Servicing both together on a fixed annual schedule is the only way to keep the system performing to its rated specification, rather than finding out it’s underperforming after the fact.

How to Service Your System

  1. Turn off the power and water supply to the system
  2. Allow the lamp to cool for at least 5 minutes
  3. Replace the UV lamp, avoiding contact with the glass with your bare hands
  4. Replace all three filter cartridges in order
  5. Restore the water supply and check for leaks
  6. Power on and reset the 365-day ballast countdown

FAQs

Why does the ballast need to be reset after replacing the lamp?

The system runs on a 365-day countdown ballast that tracks lamp life. If it isn’t reset after a lamp change, the countdown won’t reflect the new lamp’s actual service life, so the next service reminder will be inaccurate.

Can I replace the filters without changing the lamp, or vice versa?

You can, but servicing both together is recommended since they’re on the same 12-month cycle. Replacing one and not the other means you’re only getting partial protection until the next full service.

Why is there a specific micron sequence for the three filters?

The 20-micron and 1-micron sediment filters work as a two-stage sediment removal process, coarse to fine, before water reaches the 10-micron carbon block, which handles taste, odour, and chlorine reduction. Installing them out of order reduces filtration performance.

Is bare-hand contact with the lamp actually a problem, or just a precaution?

It’s a genuine issue. Oils from skin can create hot spots on the quartz-glass lamp surface, shortening its lifespan or affecting UV output. Handle it with a clean cloth or gloves.

What happens if I don’t cool the lamp before replacing it?

The lamp and housing can retain heat after operation. Handling it too soon risks burns or thermal shock to the glass, so allowing at least 5 minutes to cool is a safety step, not just a suggestion.

Does this kit fit any other Alpine Pure systems besides the Titanium Series?

It’s built specifically for systems using the 3 x 20” jumbo cartridge configuration with the L-417-40-4E lamp, covering both the Bug Buster Alpine Titanium Series and the Alpine Pure Titanium Service Kit. Other Alpine Pure configurations may need a different kit.
