Adequate pre-filtration is critical for an ultraviolet filtration system to be as effective as possible. Put simply, UV lamps work best when
the water has low sediment levels. Pre-filters capture larger particles beforehand to ensure the UV lamp treats the water properly. The UV lamp is specifically designed to neutralise harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. This helps ensure the water is safe and free from harmful pathogens that can cause illness.
The most commonly used set of pre-filters is a 20-micron pleated followed by a 1-micron sediment depth (Polyspun). The final stage of pre-filtration is not recommended to be more than 5-micron nominal. You can install carbon cartridges after sediment filtration as an additional layer of protection against bad tastes, odours, and colours.
