Description
Softens your water. Requires 10" Standard Filter Housing
Size: 10" x 2.5"
Fits 10 inch Standard Filter Housings.
This 10-inch standard softening cartridge employs cation‑exchange resin to minimise scale formation that occurs when water is heated or cooled.
These cartridges are intended for low‑flow applications, such as point‑of‑use systems or very small household setups. Operating them at higher flow rates can lead to channeling, which significantly reduces softening performance. For best results, keep the flow below 2 LPM.
It can be used alongside an activated carbon cartridge to improve taste and remove unwanted chemicals. The resin provides a cation reduction capacity of 12,915 mg, and can either be regenerated with salt or replaced once fully exhausted. To estimate the cartridge’s service life in litres, simply divide 12,915 by your measured hardness (mg/L).
Example:
If your water hardness is 150 mg/L, then:
12,915 ÷ 150 = 86.1 L of treated water.
Please note that this cartridge does not remove chlorine. If chlorine reduction is required, it should be installed in combination with a carbon filter.
For the longest resin life and most consistent performance, place a carbon cartridge upstream of the softening cartridge.
Regeneration of Media via soak method:
What you need:
- Salt - 120g
- 1.2 litres of Softened Water
- Large Heavy Duty Plastic Bag
- Bucket
- Prepare Saturated Brine - Dissolve 120 g of salt (NaCl) in about 1.2 Litres of the softened water to make a saturated brine (~26% NaCl). Stir until fully dissolved.
- Remove Cartridge from Housing - Take the cartridge out of its housing.
- Remove the Cap (Top) from the Cartridge to expose the media. Put the Heavy Duty Plastic Bag into the bucket and tip the media into the bag. Rinse the inside of the Cartridge with a bit of the Brine, and tip into Bag
- Pour the remaining Brine into the Plastic Bag. Ensure brine is fully submerged.
- Let it soak for 60 minutes.
- After 60 mins, drain the Brine out of the plastic bag.
- Pour the remaining 1.6 litres of Softened water into the Bag to rinse, and drain.
- Put the Media Back into the Cartridge and Put the Cap back on.
- Put the Cartridge back into the Filter Housing, and once sealed, run water through it for 1-2 minutes minute to rinse residual brine.
