Description
Softens your water. Requires 20" Jumbo Housing
This 20-inch jumbo water softening cartridge employs cation exchange technology to eliminate hardness and prevent scale formation in heated or cooled water. Engineered for low-flow applications (point-of-use and small whole-house systems), it maintains optimal performance at flowrates up to 10 LPM. With a cation reduction capacity of 76,950 mg, the cartridge can be regenerated with salt or replaced when exhausted. Calculate expected lifespan by dividing capacity by your water's hardness level in mg/L. Pair with activated carbon cartridges upstream for chlorine and chemical removal, enhancing both taste and filtration. Note: exceeding recommended flowrates causes channeling and reduces softening efficiency.
Regeneration of Media via soak method:
What you need:
- Salt - 720g
- 6 litres of Softened Water
- Large Heavy Duty Plastic Bag
- Bucket
- Prepare Saturated Brine - Dissolve 720 g of salt (NaCl) in about 3 Litres of the softened water to make a saturated brine (~26% NaCl). Stir until fully dissolved.
- Remove Cartridge from Housing - Take the cartridge out of its housing.
- Remove the Cap (Top) from the Cartridge to expose the media. Put the Heavy Duty Plastic Bag into the bucket and tip the media into the bag. Rinse the inside of the Cartridge with a bit of the Brine, and tip into Bag
- Pour the remaining Brine into the Plastic Bag. Ensure brine is fully submerged.
- Let it soak for 60 minutes.
- After 60 mins, drain the Brine out of the plastic bag.
- Pour the remaining 3 litres of Softened water into the Bag to rinse, and drain.
- Put the Media Back into the Cartridge and Put the Cap back on.
- Put the Cartridge back into the Filter Housing, and once sealed, run water through it for 1-2 minutes minute to rinse residual brine.
